Graham Brookes has organised a Farne Islands dive weekend on 20/21 September 2008 for members of Charnwood Saltz. However there are some spaces left so would like to open up the dive to members of your branch. They are diving off the 10 diver RIB 'Moby'. There are 2 Advanced Divers/CIs supervising, Graham and Leigh George. The cost of diving is £45 per day per person for 2 dives if 2 more divers join us and £40 if 4 divers join. Graham also has some accommodation available at St Ebbas House (Stan and Lee Hall's place) at £16 per person for a dormitory bedroom and £22.50 for a twin bedded room, both types with breakfast. Divers will need 2 cylinders each and should be at least Ocean Diver qualified. Divers should be suitable buddy pairs. We are not planning to dive deeper than 20m.

Next Wednesday (16th) is a evening dive date at Stoney. Rod suggests we get down there as a club and do some diving!

We decided, on the basis of Fridays BBC weather forcast, to go to Criccieth N Wales. Weather was pretty good - better than forcast - no rain, hardly any wind and the sea like a millpond but, due to an algal bloom (often a problem in June), it was a bit murkey on Saturday. It'd cleared by Sunday & 2nd dive was excellent. Criccieth makes a great shore dive with a large area and plenty of life but it has to be done close to high tide to get any depth.

All in all, a great weekend. Beats visiting the mother-in-law. Will repeat asap. Cheers

All, As planned, Edith, I and, possibly, no 2 daughter are heading for the sea for some camping/shore diving this weekend. After considering weather etc, Torbay area looks best (no rain til Monday & light breeze from the West, high tide about 5pm). Babbacombe, Meadfoot, Brixham & Hall Sands should be good. We'll use the 'Dornafield' campsite as was intended for the May bank holiday weekend. Anyone wishing to come along is more than welcome. Give me a ring on 07796845380.

A big THANK YOU to all those who helped out on Sunday. We were overwhelmed by the numbers that turned up to have a go and had to carry on way beyond our alloted time to cater for them all. There were nine people still waiting at 5 o'clock (finish time).

All, Edith & I are hoping to do a camping/diving (probably mainly shore diving) weekend 14/15th June weather permitting. This will either be to Weymouth, South Devon, North Wales or the N. East coast - depends on the weather, particularly the wind speed & direction. If it's bad everywhere we wont go. We wont make the final decision til the Thursday. Last minute booking of camping (or other) accomodation should be no problem at this time.

The down south, camping and shore diving trip this weekend turned into a - north Wales, small boat, shore diving and camping trip.

With the weather down south looking poor for this weekend a quick swap around was done and a few frantic telephone calls later we were booked into a campsite near Porthmadog. We luckily also managed to fill up the last four spaces on Aubrey's rib out of Traeardurr Bay on Saturday. Viz was poor, but fun was still had by all.

The intrepid Paul and Edith were however unable to persuade me to trek my kit down the beach at Criccieth today, they did take Rachel in. They tell me they saw Dolphins, a Basking Shark and a number of Mermaids. I am not sure I believe them.

It did look good though.

This will take place again this year on Sunday 8th June. The slot that we have is 3 - 5pm. We never know how many customers we'll get but I'm sure that we'll need as many instructors/ helpers as possible. Could you let me know if you are able to make it?

If you wish to go then please go ahead and book the camping yourself and let Rod know your intentions. The campsite is called Dornafield, Google it for reservations.

The site is near Newton Abbott and it gives easy access to site near Torbay amongst which Babbacombe, Meadfoot and Maidencombe all feature. Rod can confirm the ease of access and quality of diving.

This is a great opportunity for those that have yet to do a sea dive to get wet.........

He is also selling a 5.3m RIB and a 35 hr old compressor worth £3,000 and £1,100 respectively - if there are any members of the club who are interested! Would definately be a wise investment!

Last nights Try-Dive was excellent. We had 8 prospective divers attend, some of whom have already indicated a wish to join us. Thanks to all the instructors, David, Peter, Mark, Carol and Paul in the water, Alex, Grant, Mark, Mandy, Rod, Graham, Chris, Rachel and Mary (and to any one I've Missed) on the side helping with the kit etc. Well done to all and thanks for all your support once again.

Once again we have booked spaces at Stoney Cove on October 28th for a club diving day. The last one in September was well attended, let's make this one even better - it will probably be the last one of the season.

I suggest we meet at 10:00am at Stoney Cove. We will need instructors as there are Trainees to take in.

We have approximately 6 people interested in our Try-Dive night on Thursday. It would be good if we could have a one to one with instructors. Please do your best to attend. I believe there will be one or two ladies present so if some of our female members could attend that would also be appreciated. Although we have one or two volunteers we will still need people on the side to assemble and dis-assemble kit.

I don't know if Mark Hessey passed on the message to Ratae. I'm setting up a regional underwater photography group for the East Midlands (www.emup.org.uk). Our first meeting is about 10 days away when Tony White will be talking about his life as a pro photographer in South Africa. I've got many good talkers lined up monthly for the rest of year (last meeting will be May). The group will meet at Stoney Cove on a Tuesday evening.

This isn't just aimed at photographers. I've been trying to describe it to people like a live performance of an article in Dive or Diver. Some meetings will be about photography technique, but this will always be mixed with cracking photos. My own personal bias is towards UK diving, but inevitably there will be a lot of blue water talks. I also hope that all levels of photographers feel welcome. The second talk is very much aimed at new photographers and compact cameras.

Can you pass the message about EMUP to all at Ratae, everyone is welcome, but I ask that those that want to come let me know just incase too many turn up and I need to switch venues. At present everyone will just about fit downstairs in Nemo's.

If anyone is going to the Dive Show, I will be on the BSoUP stand, so feel free to come along and chat.

On October 11th David Wison will be giving a lecture on Nitrox Diving which is an overview for Ocean Divers - a lecture on Nitrox Diving for Sports Divers will follow later.

If you are thinking of moving up to Nitrox diving then I would suggest that you should attend both lectures, the first one will give you a good grounding for the Sports Diver lecture.

The next club meeting is to be held on Thursday 23rd August at the Hind Leys College I am unsure at to which room we will have as there is some building work being carried out duing the school holiday. ALL club members are welcome.

During this meeting we will be looking for a new secretary and an assistant treasurer should anyone feel they would like to take on one or both of these roles please let us know.

Please remember this is a members club and we need all your input to help with the running and improvement of the club now and in the future.

Well that time of year again our next quarterley meeting will be held on the 5th April 2006 at 8.00pm at the College.

We had a very successful night, last night, with 14 or 15 people turning up for the Try-Dive introduction and 10 of those getting into the water. How many will come back? Who knows! we shall see next week. Apparently four have said they will be there - may be more.

A big THANK YOU to all those members that turned up, the instructors/ACIs and to all those "on the side" who put the kit together and helped the Try-Divers get kitted up and rinsed the kit and cleared it away afterwards. It was much appreciated. Thanks again

I BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY TEN PEOPLE WHO WISH TO TAKE PART IN THE TRY-DIVE THIS WEEK. IN THAT CASE WE NEED AT LEAST FIVE INSTRUCTORS/ACI's OR OTHER WILLING QUALIFIED HELPERS IN THE WATER! PLUS MEMBERS ON THE SIDE TO HELP PUT THE KIT TOGETHER, HELP THE TRY-DIVERS INTO THE WATER ETC.
